Businesses in New York City may need an Air Permit issued by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). You need this permit if you use equipment or do activities that the New York City Air Pollution Control Code (Air Code) regulates.
Activities and equipment covered
You may need a permit if you:
- Use fuel-burning equipment
- Demolish buildings
- Spray insulating materials
- Use various industrial machines
- Do anything that makes smoke, soot, ash, dust, fumes, gas, vapors or odors
