Accountants, including Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), must be licensed to practice in New York State. The New York State Education Department (NYSED) gives out these licenses. You need this license to call yourself a CPA.
How to get a CPA license
To get a CPA license, you need to:
- Finish certain education requirements
- Meet work experience requirements
- Pass an exam
If you have a CPA license from another state, you can get it endorsed in New York to use your license to work in New York.
