To do electrical work in New York City, you need a license from the Department of Buildings. There are two types of licenses:

Master Electrician License: Needed to get a construction permit for electrical work or to do electrical work in New York City.
Special Electrician License: Needed to get a construction permit for electrical work or to do electrical work if you work for a building owner in New York City.
