Fire Protection Plan
A fire protection plan is a document you give to the Fire Department of New York (FDNY). It shows that your building has fire safety and evacuation systems. These systems must follow the rules in Article 109 of the NYC Construction Codes.
You need to submit a fire protection plan to get:
- A Certificate of Occupancy
- A Temporary Certificate of Occupancy
- A Letter of Completion
Local Law 195 of 2018: This law says you must file fire protection plans with the FDNY. The plan's details are in Section 28-109.1 of the NYC Construction Codes. You need a plan for new buildings and for changes to covered buildings. The plan includes floor plans and a description of each fire safety system.
You cannot use PDF forms to file a fire protection plan: You must file online. You can find the instructions for online filing on the Fire Department website.

One set of floor plans: signed and sealed by a registered design professional in PDF format.

Application fees:
- New Application Fees: $420
- Document Processing Fee: $165 (new plans only)

Filing an amendment: you can now access old FDNY records by giving your reference account number (FPIMS #) and premises ZIP code. It is best to link your old record at the start of the application.

Submit the completed application online with all needed documents.
