Nurses that provide care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or physician must be licensed in New York State. Licensed Practical Nurses have licenses from the NYS Department of Education (NYSDOE).
Applicants must meet educational requirements and pass an exam. Those who have not taken the exam yet can get a limited permit. This permit allows the person to practice under the supervision of a Licensed Practical Nurse.
