A nurse practitioner is a Registered Nurse with special certification from the New York State Department of Education.

Nurse practitioners get their training through school and work. They can diagnose, treat and prescribe in their field.

Nurse practitioners take care of their patients independently. However, they must have written rules and an agreement with a doctor.
