Private companies can work with the New York State DMV. They need a contract to do this. They use a computer system connected to the DMV.

Registrations:

• Re-registrations
• Registration renewals
• Amended registrations
• Duplicate registrations

Other Transactions:

• Duplicate titles
• Plate surrenders
• Replacement of lost or stolen plates
• Custom plates
• Titles only (for lease buybacks)
• In-transit permits (if needed)
