Respiratory therapists must be licensed to practice in New York State. This license is from the New York State Department of Education (NYSDOE).
Applicants must meet educational and experience requirements, and pass an exam. Those who have not passed the exam can get a limited permit. This permit allows someone to practice under the supervision of a licensed therapist or physician. Applicants must pass exams from the National Board for Respiratory Care.
