Respiratory therapist technicians must be licensed to practice in New York State. This license is from the New York State Department of Education (NYSDOE).
License holders must be supervised by a physician. Applicants must meet educational and experience requirements, and pass an exam. Those who have not passed the exam can get a limited permit. This permit allows someone to practice under the supervision of a licensed therapist or physician. Applicants must pass exams from the National Board for Respiratory Care.
