Businesses that resell tickets, people who resell tickets, and websites that resell tickets need a license from the New York State Department of State (NYSDOS).

Who does not need a license?

Auction websites.
Nonprofit groups.
Anyone who sells tickets they bought for personal use.

Where you cannot resell tickets

Within 1,500 feet of a large venue (5,000 or more people).
Within 500 feet of a smaller venue.

Registration for distributors

Distributors of original tickets must register with the New York State Attorney General.
