If you take apart vehicles, you must register with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

You have 15 days to sell a vehicle to a scrap processor. If you sell it, you do not need a salvage certificate. Record all sold vehicles in the Book of Registry. Mail this form to the DMV every month. If you do not sell, you may need a salvage certificate.
