The New York City (NYC) Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) inspects scales at businesses. They make sure the scales are correct. You can ask for a scale check online or by calling 311.

- The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) inspects scales up to 1,500 kg (3,307 lb). Make sure your scale is within this limit before asking for an inspection.
- Request a scale inspection: You can request a scale inspection online or call 311 and ask for "scale inspection." You will get a notice of your inspection date within 15 days of the City getting your request. If you have a condemned scale, you will get a notice within five days.
- Average inspection time: The average inspection time is 15 to 30 minutes per scale. DCWP will bill you for the inspection fee after the inspection. The fees are set by New York State Weights and Measures Regulations.
- Annual inspection: Businesses must schedule an annual inspection at least 60 days before the scale's expiration date.

- You will go to a website: Log in to your account or sign up for an account with the City of New York.
