If you run a beauty business, you need a special license from the New York State Department of State (NYSDOS). This license is different from those for styling hair, doing manicures and other services.

Employees need their own licenses for their specific jobs, including:

Independent contractors working on a business's premises need an Area Renter License. This license also comes from the NYSDOS.
