If you want to perform beauty treatments, you need an Esthetics License from the New York State Department of State (NYSDOS).

You must pass a test to get this license. If you want to work while waiting for your license, you can get a temporary license. If you have five years of experience in a legal job elsewhere, you might not need to take the test.

This license is not for businesses. Businesses need a different license.

Make-over consultants and make-up artists at theaters do not need this license.
