Food Protection Course for Mobile Food Vendors.

This course trains individuals in food protection practices to ensure the safety of the food served from New York City's mobile food carts and trucks. You must apply for a mobile food license, which costs $50, and register for the course, which costs $53, together. Read more about a Mobile Food Vendor License below in Additional Details.

Registration for this course must be done in person at the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) Licensing Center.

This class is offered in English and Bangla.

Frequency and Duration: This is an eight-hour course conducted over two days, four hours each day. Two English classes are head most weeks, one on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and another on Thursdays and Fridays. The schedule for the Bangla class varies.

When you complete this class and pass the final exam, you will receive your mobile food vendor license in the mail about a week later. If you fail the final exam, you must register and pay for the course again. There is no limit to the number of times you can take the course and final exam.

Before you can register for this class and apply for a mobile food vending license, you must obtain your New York State Certificate of Authority to Collect Sales Tax. The address on the Certificate must match that of the applicant for which an application is being submitted.

You must present a government issued photo ID to begin the course.
Attend all sessions of the course, and take the final examination. Applicants will not be given a certificate or letter at the end of the course to verify satisfactory completion; however the Health Academy will provide the names of those who passed and are eligible for a Mobile Food Vending License to the appropriate offices and authorities. You should receive your Mobile Food Vending License in the mail about a week after passing the exam.
If an applicant fails to pass the course's final examination they must re-register, pay an additional fee and take the course again before a license will be issued.
Successful completion of the Mobile Food Vending Food Protection Course does not satisfy all of the regulatory requirements of other City and State Agencies. It is the business owner's responsibility to apply for all other permits, licenses, and authorizations required by other City and State Agencies. Failure to comply with all relevant regulations, including those under the jurisdiction of other Agencies, may result in the suspension of DOHMH permits until proof of compliance is provided. Replacement Requests

If you are in need of a replacement certificate, email healthacdmy@health.nyc.gov with “FPC replacement” in the subject field. If you took the class more than 10 years ago you must retake the course and pass the final exam.
