Registration for Demolition Form AR299/300
If you want to demolish a building, structure, facility or installation, you must fill out the Registration for Demolition Form AR 299/300. You need to send it to the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Do this 10 days before you start the demolition.
Exception: If the building has been declared structurally unsound and in danger of falling down, you do not need to register with the DEP.
Display requirement: You must show the approved registration near the demolition site.
Dust control: You must use adequate wetting, with mist or water, to control dust before and during the demolition.

Demolition permit: You need a Demolition Permit from the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB).

Asbestos removal: If the building has asbestos containing materials (ACM), you must remove or abate it. Follow federal, State and City regulations. Notify the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) at least seven days before you start abatement activities. Learn more about Asbestos Rules and Regulations.

Measure street frontage: Measure the street frontage of the building or structure in feet. If the building or structure faces more than one street, measure the longest frontage only.

Calculate the fee:
- Multiply the street frontage in feet by the number of stories.
- Multiply that number by $0.25.
- The minimum fee is $250.

- Fill out the form and submit it with the required fee to the DEP.
- You will get a response from DEP within 10 days after submission. Contact DEP if no response is received within 10 days of submitting the application.
