Rifle / Shotgun Dealer License
A Rifle / Shotgun Dealer's License is needed for any business that sells rifles, shotguns or ammunition in New York City.

You need a valid Certificate of Occupancy from the Department of Buildings. It must allow the sale of longarms. Learn more about the Certificate of Occupancy.

If you want to sell used rifles or shotguns, you need a Second-hand Dealer's License from the Department of Consumer Affairs. Learn more about the Secondhand Dealer General License.

You need a Fire Department permit if you will store more than 200 rounds of ammunition.

Permit fees:
- The application fee is $150.00.
- The fingerprint fee for new applicants is $88.25.

- This license is valid for up to two years. You must renew it before January 1 of the year it expires.
- Every dealer must keep a record book. The Rifle/Shotgun Section gives you this book. It must list all rifle and shotgun trades by the dealer.
- All employees who handle rifles and/or shotguns must possess a rifle/shotgun permit issued by the License Division.

Submit the original application and one copy. Pay all fees in person at the Rifle / Shotgun Section.
