Businesses that make clothes must register every year with the New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL). This includes:

Cleaning and tailoring businesses are exempt if they do not sell clothes themselves.

When to register

You must register before January 15 every year.

Why register

Businesses must follow laws that protect workers' rights and limit labor conditions. If a business is identified as a "sweatshop," it cannot register and it will be shut down.
