About
An asbestos handler supervisor is an individual paid to direct and coordinate the removal, repair, or enclosure of asbestos-containing materials. The Asbestos Handler Supervisor Certification is issued to applicants who are specially trained at any of the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) approved training outlets, and certified by the New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) and the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to perform this supervisory work.
NYSDOL and DEP issue Asbestos Handler Supervisor Certification in the form of photo identification cards. The DEP certificate is valid for two years, and the NYSDOL certificate is valid for one year only.
An individual may not engage in the supervision of workers on an asbestos project or in asbestos abatement activities unless that individual has the “Asbestos Handler Supervisor Certification” issued by NYSDOL and DEP.
