You need a certificate to use a mobile laser in New York State. Mobile laser operators must meet requirements for education and experience.

Anyone who uses a mobile laser needs this certification, with the exception of:

Engineers
Surveyors
Researchers

Types of certificates

Low-intensity and high-intensity laser operators are separately certified. There are two types of certificates:

Class A certificate: for only low-intensity mobile lasers
Class B certificate: for both high-intensity and low-intensity mobile lasers
