If you run a hotel, motel, guesthouse or any place that gives shelter to more than 10 people for over 60 hours a year, you need a Permit to Operate a Temporary Residence.

If you are in New York City (Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island), contact the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) and the NYC Department of City Planning (DCP).

If you run an illegal residence, you can be prosecuted under the law.
