Physicians and doctors must have a license from the New York State Department of Education (NYSDOE) to practice in New York.
Applicants must have completed a four-year medical degree with clinical rotations as part of the program. Degrees from outside the United States may be recognized with an exam. Applicants must pass an exam. Doctors waiting to pass the exam can get a permit to practice under the supervision of a licensed doctor.
Please note that naturopathic doctors are not considered physicians under state law. Naturopaths cannot apply for this license without a traditional medical degree.
