Businesses that sell tires must collect a fee to pay for tire recycling. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) collects these fees.
The fee is $2.50 per new tire sold.
Tire service centers must collect the waste tire management and recycling fee from the buyer at the time of the sale and remit the fee to the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance. The fee is mandated from September 12, 2003 until December 31st, 2025.
