Employers must pay taxes to provide unemployment insurance in New York State.

Unemployment insurance is temporary income for workers who become unemployed through no fault of their own. Only certain workers are eligible.

The New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) decides if a business must pay unemployment insurance. The NYSDOL also decides if employees qualify.

Employers can use the State Information Data Exchange System (SIDES) to process claims. The link is provided in "Additional Resources."
