Accepting Electronic Signatures

About

State Administrative and Support Services

Electronic signatures are equal to paper signatures in New York State. The Electronics Signatures and Records Act (ESRA) guarantees this state-wide. All businesses are bound by this law.

Electronic records have the same legal force as paper, microfilm, and other records. Electronic signatures are equal to hand-written signatures on any document, contract, or receipt. There are some exceptions in Section 307 of the law.

The New York State Office of Information Technology enforces ESRA.
