All stores, restaurants and bars that sell beer, wine or liquor must register with the United States Department of the Treasury's Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau.
The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau has two types of business categories.
Retail Dealers
Retail dealers sell alcohol to people. Retail dealers can be:
- Stores
- Restaurants
- Bars
- Private clubs
- Fraternal organizations
- Grocery stores
- Supermarkets
Wholesale Dealers
Wholesale dealers sell alcohol to other dealers or in large amounts.
Registration Guidelines
Businesses can register once for many locations. They can also register for different activities under the same Employer Identification Number (EIN).
