Alcohol Dealer Registration

All stores, restaurants and bars that sell beer, wine or liquor must register with the United States Department of the Treasury's Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau.

The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau has two types of business categories.

Retail Dealers

Retail dealers sell alcohol to people. Retail dealers can be:

• Stores
• Restaurants
• Bars
• Private clubs
• Fraternal organizations
• Grocery stores
• Supermarkets

Wholesale Dealers

Wholesale dealers sell alcohol to other dealers or in large amounts.

Registration Guidelines

Businesses can register once for many locations. They can also register for different activities under the same Employer Identification Number (EIN).

You must register:

• - Before opening your business, the alcohol portion of your business or a new location of your business.- On or before July 1 each year if your registration information changes.- Within 30 days of stopping the alcohol part of your business.- Within 30 days of closing your business.
