Daily Over-Dimensional Permit

If your vehicle is too big or heavy, you need a Daily Over Dimensional Permit to drive in New York City.
The size limits are:
- 13 feet 6 inches tall
- 8 feet wide
- 55 feet long (tractor plus trailer, bumper to bumper)
- Maximum weight limit for vehicles is 80,000 pounds or less, depending upon axle spacing.
- Bridges or viaducts may have lower weight limits posted.
- The legal weights are outlined on the Department of Transportation's (DOT) Size and Weight Restrictions page.
You need a permit from the DOT for each part of your trip. For example, you need one permit to drive into the city and another to drive out.
