Engineering Application and Amendment

After You Apply

After you submit your application

    Upon review, the applicant will receive one or more of the following:
    • Letter of Acceptance, Letter of Approval or Conditional Letter of Acceptance – if all the requirements for the Engineering Application and/or Amendment are met.
    • Letter of Deficiency – if any of the requirements for the engineering application and/or amendment are not met. All deficiencies must be corrected and submitted within 6 months from the date listed on the issued letter of deficiency. If corrections are submitted after 6 months from the date listed on the issued Letter of Deficiency, then the application will be subject to resubmission fees.
    • Letter of No Objection – if the requirements of the engineering application and amendment are satisfied but FDNY is not the main authority having jurisdiction.
    • Site visit request – if deemed necessary in the permit or application approval process.
    • A Site-specific, Citywide, or Transportation permit – If all the requirements for the engineering application and amendment are met. Issued permits must be kept on the premises at all times and must be readily available for inspection by any FDNY representative.

      Project Authorization Requests
      Project Authorization is FDNY approval to commence the work specified on the approved application.

      Applicant(s) must request a Project Authorization after approval of the following plan types: Fire Alarm Plan, Rangehood Plan, Engineering- Non-water Fire Suppression plan, Auxiliary Radio Communication System Application. Project Authorizations are required prior to construction and scheduling inspection. All other proposed jobs are permitted by Department of Buildings (DOB).

      Who can file: Any authorized agent can file (Owner, contractor, licensed professional etc.)

      Requirements for the Licensed Professional Section
      Fire Alarm Plan: Licensed Master Electrician & S97 Holder
      Rangehood Plan: Licensed Master Fire Suppression Contractor
      Engineering Non-water Fire Suppression Plan: Licensed Contractor

      Project Authorization request must be submitted on FDNY Business. Project Authorizations will no longer be granted until you file the request online. To submit a Project Authorization Request or renewal, select the Project Authorization Request option from Design and Installation Application on FDNY Business.

        Note: This does not apply to applications that were not previously filed online on FDNY Business.

            Inspection:
            The FDNY correspondence letter (Letter of Acceptance, Letter of No Objection or other acceptance letter) must detail inspection conditions if required. Applicant must contact the respective inspection unit to request and schedule an inspection.
