NYSERDA Commercial New Construction Program
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has a program called the Commercial New Construction Program (CNCP). This program helps businesses make new or renovated buildings more energy efficient. It offers technical support to building design teams and also gives financial incentives to building owners.
The CNCP provides technical help to
- Evaluate energy-efficiency measures
- Limit energy usage and peak demand electric loads
- Guide design teams on using new energy-efficient technologies
Funding is available. It helps cover the extra costs of buying and installing approved energy-efficient equipment.
Two types of building projects can get incentives:
-
New construction project: A new building or space within a new building. A licensed professional architect or engineer must prepare and certify the building plans.
-
Substantial renovation project: This includes:
- Changing the use and reconstructing an existing building or space
- Construction work that requires the building or space to be out of service for at least 30 consecutive days
- Reconstructing a vacant structure or space within a building
There is no limit on the size of the project. This includes energy usage or building square footage.
The funding for this program comes from the New York State Clean Energy Fund.
