If you are building or fixing a place where many people gather, you need to get your plans approved. The New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) approves these plans.
Places of public assembly are where 100 or more people come together for recreation. These places include:
- Theaters
- Assembly halls
- Places with bleachers
- Large tents
Some places do not need approval, like:
- Religious organizations
- Public associations
- Public libraries
- Larger hotels
