Real estate brokers need a license to work in New York State. This license comes from the New York State Department of State (NYSDOS).
To get a license, you must:
- Pay a fee
- Meet education requirements
- Pass a test
If you are a lawyer in New York State, you only need to pay the fee.
If you are a broker with a license from another state, you can apply to have your license recognized in New York. This is possible if you work for a firm that does business in New York State.
