One week after submitting the application and getting a receipt, the applicant can call the Bureau of Food Safety and Community Sanitation at (212) 676-1600 or (646) 632-6203 to schedule a pre-permit inspection of their mobile food vending unit.

The NYC Administrative Code requires that all mobile food vending units must pass an inspection within six months of the date an application is submitted or the application becomes void. There is no waiver of this time requirement.

Important: Permit holders must accompany their vending unit to the pre-permit inspection. There are no exceptions.

The applicant may begin to vend from the mobile food vending unit immediately after passing the pre-permit inspection and having a permit-decal affixed to the unit. The permit paper document will be sent by mail to the applicant's mailing address.

Food cannot be sold or offered from a cart or truck without a valid NYC Health Department mobile food vending permit, even when the operator has a valid mobile food vendor license issued by the Health Department.
This permit type will expire up to two years from the end of the month in which the applicant applied or on the expiration date on the contract or lease, whichever comes first.
