In accordance with Local Law 12, taverns and restaurants that sell food for on-premise consumption are required to have resuscitation equipment on the premises. Required resuscitation equipment includes one (1) adult exhaled resuscitation mask, one (1) pediatric exhaled air resuscitation mask, and two (2) pairs of latex gloves. Masks must be certified for use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and can be purchased at most surgical supply stores.
Signs must be posted to inform customers that the resuscitation equipment is available. The sign must also display where customers can find the equipment, and where they can learn CPR. This information can be provided on a sign or on the menu. The owner of the establishment or the staff are under no obligation to use the equipment or give medical assistance to a victim.
