Retail Food Store License

If you sell food for people to take home, you need a Retail Food Store License. This includes selling foods like milk, eggs and meat. The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets gives out this license.

Important notes:

• Each store needs its own license.
• If you only sell safe, pre-packaged foods, you do not need this license.
• Cafes and restaurants do not need this license.
• Vending machines do not need this license.
