Since October 9, 2018, all workers must get training on sexual harassment prevention. This includes part-time workers. Training must happen every year.
New York State has strong rules. These rules are stronger than New York City's. Employers in the City must keep a list of who attends each training.
The training must be interactive. It must have a live trainer. It can also have a web component. Workers must be able to ask questions and give feedback.
The training must cover:
- Sexual harassment laws in the City, State and the United States.
- Workers' rights to complain and how their claims will be handled. This includes City, State and federal complaint steps.
- Employers' and supervisors' duties.
- Anti-retaliation laws.
- Bystander intervention info (in the City).
There are no exceptions. If workers mostly speak other languages, training should be in those languages if possible.
