Sidewalk Crossing Permit
You need a permit from the Department of Transportation (DOT) to drive a vehicle or motorized equipment across a sidewalk without an approved driveway or dropped curb cut. This is needed to deliver or remove construction material or equipment.
You can have up to two sidewalk crossings for every 300 linear feet of sidewalk.

Get insurance: You need a commercial general liability insurance policy. Check the NYC Highway Rules for specific requirements.

Pay the fee: The fee is $50.00 for up to three months.

- Follow all laws, rules, and specifications from the Department of Transportation (DOT).
- Follow the stipulations on your permit.
- Register your business with DOT: Complete the Permittee Registration Application and email the application and required documents listed in the Street Works Manual Section 3.2.1 to constructionpermits@dot.nyc.gov.
- Use the online system: Registered permittees can apply, pay for and print their permits anytime using the NYCStreets Permit Management online system at nycstreets.net. You can submit, pay for, and print permits anytime, but the review process happens only during normal weekday Permit Office hours.
